Holding On
After morning showers, this ivy was holding on to a drop of water that had slowly collected from its leaf. I waited and waited for it to drop, but it just held there.
Winter Sun
This leaf had blown into a different bush in the desert and was holding on to it's new host when I found it. I loved the back light from the evening winter sun.
Defensive
I've always liked catcus. I used to have some growing up and for some reason enjoyed trying to touch them lightly to see what they felt like. This guy was very thorny and provides a good reminder to watch your step while walking in the desert!
Kodachrome Flowers
Visiting Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah was something special. Great views, colorful rocks and interesting formations that make you think, "how'd that get there?". Always look down in the desert though, as you may find beauty at your feet. This bright pink flowering plant was growing in recently wet red-orange soil and was enjoying the morning sun after the storm.
Royal Mess
If you were to describe what royal gardens should look like, you'd probably think they were meticulously manicured. This section of the gardens at Windsor Castle looks more like plantings from an English Cottage that has been overrun by blooms. I kind of like how the plants have all converged in a party of petals, leaves and stems.
Precision
It is amazing what precision a plant can create when it comes to petals or leaves. It is a thing of beauty, but also functional as it funnels water to the base.
Shooting Stars
From the gardens in St. James Park. This was an interesting flower. I couldn't tell if it was yet to bloom or had already bloomed. The center put off these long skinny shoots and then little pods with spikes around it made it look like a shooting star.
Candy Corn
I liked this variety of sunflower because of it's gradual red to orange to yellow. If the seeds matched the petals, I imagine it would product candy corn-like seeds.
Bed Head
I like this sunflower because its petals are not very uniform and make me think this is what a flower might look like if it had bed head.
Jelly Bean
I really like Iris. They have such interesting shapes and to me, they smell like jelly beans, and I really like jelly beans. I'm usually out and about or traveling to find my subjects, but this iris is proudly hanging out in my yard with fresh spring dew.
Hay Field Flower
I found this flower in a hay field. I liked how it's tiny little pink buds exploded into a purple flower that seemed way bigger than the bud could conceal.
Pink Tuft
I think this is technically a weed. Its green pods dry out and become prickly stickers that tangle up the manes of the horses where my daughters take riding lessons. Still, before it becomes a nusance, it puts off a nice tuft of pink that can be enjoyed...from a distance.

Foggy Flower
My lens fogged up in the humid conservatory air, but I took the picture any way. I kind of like the way it looks.
